We've got some major "behind-the-scenes" changes going on right now with our website host provider, so there's going to be some problems and outages with certain parts of the website (particularly photos and the forum) until I can get it all straightened out.

Here it is: the event I'm sure you've all been waiting for. The fifth annual Captains of the World Oscar Pool is up and running! The cost is still a paltry $2.00, so it would be great to see as many of you as possible join in!

Seems like we had some server issues with the photos over the last month or so. I think I've got it all straightened out now, however, and I've also just finished posting the photos that Jen and I took on our white-water rafting trip from the summer.

Yesterday I posted photos from a "mini vacation" that Jen and I took to White Rock a couple of weeks ago. Check them out in the Photos section. We also took some photos from our white-water rafting trip last weekend, which I will try to get posted shortly.

A very big "Congratulations!" to our original Captain of World, Randy, who was married on Thursday to his Captainess, Vera. Congratulations to the two of you, and best wishes for a wonderful life together!

It's been a while since the last update, so here's a quick rundown of what's going on.

First, it should be pretty obvious that the Oscar Pool is up and running now. Even if you haven't seen many (or any) of the nominated films, it's a fun thing to get involved with, and it only costs a twonie! Feel free to enter now and pay me later.

Second, we hope that you've been checking out the three travel blogs linked here on CotW. Holly, Erin, and Pete are all great bloggers and all have some really cool things to say on their respective sites.

Third, I believe Randy might have some new artwork coming up fairly quickly. He'll have to confirm that, but I'm pretty sure it's true!

Finally, I'm moving tomorrow (it's about time!) so I may disappear for a week or two. However, I do have a backlog of movie reviews to get through (including a few Oscar nominated films), and I'll try to get those up soon.

As you can see from the new links on the top-right corner, we've added two new travel blogs to the website. Okay, well Holly's blog isn't really part of CotW, but she's "one of the family" so we're more than happy to link to it. I've just set up Erin's blog today, so there's nothing there yet. Check back often, as I'm sure she'll post something soon!

Photos from the recent Modern Republic show are now up in the Photos section. Also, be sure to check out the next Modern Republic show: Wednesday, December 28th at The Marine Club downtown (check out the M.R. website). It's gonna be a big one, and it's also our going-away party for Holly, who will be leaving the very next day for an extended stay in Australia.

Finally, it's that time of the year again; we hope you all have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

It's been a while, but we've finally got something new going on here. No longer will Holly and Lindsay be gracing our website with their presence (unfortunately), but in their place will be Pete, as he embarks tomorrow on a lengthy Australian tour. Click on the big, obvious link at the top-right to visit Pete's new travel blog, and maybe drop him a quick comment to say 'hello' and let him know that you'll be reading. Have fun, Pete!

I finally got around to posting the photos that Jen and I took during our vacation in Whistler this summer. Have a look in the Photos section.

Well, now that my CA school stuff is out of the way until May of next year, I'm hoping to pick things up a bit around here. First off was fixing the technical glitch in the Photos sections that was preventing individual photos from loading (along with their comments). Photos are now back online, and I've posted a new set that I took during the summer, at Gold Creek near Allouette Lake. Next up will be the Whistler photos that Jen and I took during our vacation.

As mentioned in my last post, it definitely has been quiet around here. I'm hoping that will change shortly, as I'm writing one of my C.A. exams this Saturday. When that's over and done with, I'll essentially be 'free' until March of next year, and will have plenty of time to get things rolling here again. In that regard, I intend to get up to date on a large number of backlogged movie reviews, and a bunch of new photos as well (though we're having a bit of technical trouble with viewing photos right now). Also, I think Randy's close to getting settled into his new place, and will hopefully get some of his new artwork posted. Finally, I'll be filling you all in shortly on what's been happening with the much-delayed Modern Republic demo album.

Things have been a little quiet around here lately. I've been insanely busy, mostly with my Chartered Accountancy training stuff, but also with work in general, buying a condo and preparing to move out, and getting the upcoming Modern Republic CD ready.

I'm going to be busy right through to mid-October with my C.A. stuff, but after that I can rest easy knowing I'm not getting back into it until the following May. Still, I'll try to keep the movie reviews coming at least once every two weeks or so, and the Song of the Week will continue to be updated (though it's been more like Song of the Month lately!).

Of course, keep checking the Crazy Canadian Adventure for updates from Holly. Lindsay is back home now, but Holly's still traipsing around Europe (I guess that makes it not quite so much a Canadian adventure anymore...).

I know Randy's been pretty busy too -- also having just bought a condo (congratulations!), and getting a bunch of his artwork ready for a recent comic convention he attended in Chicago. Hopefully we'll see some of that in his Art section.

But I do have something new for you all today: photos from Modern Republic's two-weekend recording sessions. Check them out in the Photos section.

As you may or may not know, Lindsay and Holly have just embarked on a lengthy trip across Canada (in fact, they're on the plan as I write this). They've promised to keep us all up-to-date on their crazy little adventure, and we've set up a "travel blog" to help them do that. Click on the picture at the top-right to check it out!

As far as their trip itinerary goes, they're hopping all over the place. Rather than try to sum up what I know about their trip, I'll leave it up to Holly or Lindsay to give us a run-down of their plans for the next couple months on their blog.

Anyway, hopefully their Crazy Canadian Adventure blog will get lots of use. I'm sure they'd both really appreciate if people could leave the occasional comment or three on their posts!

I just want to let everyone know that CotW will be hosting a new feature, to begin on this coming weekend (yes, something will finally be replacing the Oscar Pool icon)!

Over the next week or so -- actually, hopefully over this weekend --I'm going to upgrade the website to run on Moveable Type 3.16 (a big step up from 2.65, which we're on right now). I'm going to try to make the switch-over as seamless as possible, and if all goes well, there shouldn't be any interuptions to the site at all. If I do run into problems though, it likely wouldnl't take long to sort out.

The Forum will be untouched though, so even if the main site goes down, you can still get to the forum by going to http://www.CaptainsOfTheWorld.com/forum/.
